Singapore, 17 March 2016 – The Asian Television Awards (ATA) 2015 continues to rewrite records. The epic 20th edition of the event took place in the state-of-the-art auditorium at Suntec City, Singapore last year on 2 and 3 December 2015. The awards event saw more than 1,400 entries from markets spanning across Asia, as far as Qatar in the Middle East.
ATA 2015 recorded a total television viewership footprint of 11.1 million, which is a 27x increase from 2014’s viewership numbers. If you need a rough gauge of the cumulative television audience that watched the awards event, it is close to 2 times the Singapore population (which stood at around 5,535,000 as of 2015. In terms of broadcast reach, last year’s event had an estimated reach of more than 300 million, which translates to a 629% increase compared to 2014’s television reach.
Said Raymond Wong, Chairman of ATA, “It is heartening to know that the Asian Television Awards appeals to a large spectrum of television viewers across Asia, even though the event is totally in English. For this year’s edition, we intend to build on this foundation and explore ways to better tailor ATA to meet the needs of the continent’s diverse TV audience.”
Of the total viewership numbers, 1.6 million viewers came from South East Asia, making it one of the most watched programmes in the region. In addition, ATA 2015 garnered 9.5 million viewers from Greater China, which is in itself another new record.
